Buzzcocks LIVE in Malaysia @ One Cafe, Jln. TAR

GODDD it's an unbelievable feeling of elation when you go home after a gig of one the most respectable and legendary Manchester bands like Buzzcocks. But then again there's none else like them. :)

Arrived at One Cafe around 4pm with Pali and Kenet, but chilled at the table with Alip and his friend. Waited for Haziq and Chaom to arrive and the gig finally started at about 6pm (two hours late LOL). Was quite disappointed at the fact that we paid RM50 for the Buzzcocks yet had NO TICKET!! It was just some stupid band around our wrist. Gay.

Spent the two hours ogling at the punks and skinheads that came round. It's a proud feeling when you see the white people walking in and looking everywhere, probably having no idea that Malaysia's music scene was actually so well tuned and alive. :)

Buzzcocks! They walked right past!!!! I was like... OHHH MY GOOODDDD. Haha. But because all the true punk fans were outside, the only giggers in the cafe didn't even seem to know them. Gay. Disrespect y'all!

First band: Dichii Michii. Not exactly punk but the crowds were polite enough to clap and cheer for them. They were good! Loved the keyboardist, he was super funky and had great harmonies to go with the vocalist/guitarist. Got me jiving :D

They played about 4 songs, then went off and made way for Gasoline Grenade. They were alright, music-wise, but the vocalists were... uhm... odd. :D Was super amused with Haziq at Carburetor Dung's vocalist who was at the side of the stage staringgg at Gasoline Grenade... HAHAHA.

Free Love was next, and bring in Mohd Jayzuan. Loved them. So energetic, so crazy, and the showmanship was soooo .... ALIVE! :D Jumped along to them, and fell right into the gig mood.

Next up. SUBCULTURE! One of the more respected punk bands in Malaysia, they were well accepted and all the crowds begun to start going crazy, and finally the gig area started to feel more like a gig scene. :D

Last opening band of the day: Carburetor Dung!! One of the oldest grunge bands in Malaysia, and still running strong, they were absolutely tight. Kinda tipsy as the vocalist was already, that made him even more hyper. I felt like I was watching Ija on stage when he performed with Enrai the last time. HAHA.

A short break came next, and we watched the crew pull down the white sheets off the back of the stage, presenting the huge BUZZCOCKS sign on the huge banner. That made me super excited. Super. Super excited. And after about half an hour of waiting.. THEY CAME ON!!!!

Their set. Unbelievable. I can't even say things like "tight, amazing and awesome showmanship" because even those are frigging understatements! Pete Shelly, however old and round he may be getting still holds together the vocals tight with Steve Diggle. God! They were like.... orgasmic! They performed about 20 songs including songs like "What Do I Get?", "Fast Cars", "Girl from the Chainstore", "Ever Fallen in Love", "Oh Shit", "Love You More", "Promises".... and loads loads loads more, finally ending with "Orgasm Addict"!!!! WOOHOOOOO! :P

It was really awesome because Chris Remington (bassist) was RIGHT in front of me, and somehow kept making funny faces at me, hahaha, god it was epic. :D I loveddd ittttt. Wheeeee. Then I asked for Teenage Kicks which they covered, and Pete Shelly came right up to my ear to tell me they're not performing it coz' it's a cover.

But I liked their cover... :( Hahaha!

The show ended around 10pm, and we sat around waiting for Buzzcocks to finish eating. But Haziq and Chaom had to leave so it was just me and Jarrod, whilst Pali waited outside with Kenet and gang. Saw Diggle started to get hogged for photos, so we swiftly walked towards him. I show him my Buzzcocks Singles Going Steady CD that I had, and asked him to sign it. AND HE DID! And then I saw Chris Remington and asked him to sign too! Then he borrowed my marker and went into the band room... and we followed! Muahaha. So there was Jarrod and I, in a room with the Buzzcocks. You have no.idea.how.that.felt.like. WARGHHHH!! Was so starstruck, but I managed to hold it in together, enough to tell Pete Shelly that mangosteens were awesome... and he asked me to have some. God. *faint*
HAHA!

Celine had her ears pinging for another 24 hours, but it's all gooood. :)

Nice blog. Nice coverage about gigs in KL. You managed to take better photos than me at Buzzcocks' gig. I'm so jealous..haha. Hmm...Carburetor Dung the "grunge" band??? Let me call Joe Kidd to tell him about it and see his reaction. :) They call themselves punk over the decades actually.
