A night with only three bands, there's not much to write about.
I missed out on most of Liyana Fizi's set, but was all ready for Kyoto Protocol's set. My first time seeing them live though I've been working with them a couple of times before, for magazines and events. Plus the fact that Gael the keyboardist was my sister's close friend in high school makes it all quite surreal, indeed.
Kyoto Protocol, with a shameless vocalist fronting the band, is everything that shouts dirty, lusty, funky music, without a doubt. The first time catching them live has made sure this won't be my last time. Really great stuff, full of energy, full of spirit, and the music arrangements are so crazy it leaves us no time to breath, and chasing after their music, keeping up with the paces as they fluctuate. As I wrote before, the band takes you to a certain zone of comfort and as you are about to latch onto it, they change directions and spins you crazy.
Was constantly tapping my feet and singing along to the small bits I could sing along to throughout their whole set, and I can confidently say it's been a long while I have seen a band in KL and had the feeling of always looking forward to what the next song was going to sound like. Nice jooobbbbb.
Next up was Pesawat, the one who was going to end the night with a blast. They obviously did, with their catchy, uplifting songs, but somehow the crowd wasn't very responsive to their music... it is a difficult place for a band like Pesawat, who are usually crowded around by fans who prefer sweating and jumping in crowds rather than chill in a bar with drinks and friends.
Nonetheless, I really enjoyed their music, and was glad to hear some of their new tracks after a long time of not catching them live (since 2009 man!). Their showmanship was super energetic, the keyboardist, Danial and frontman Jipi were non-stop moving here and there. Was entertaining for sure, a good session of bopping around and singing along! :)
Headed back to Hartamas for something to eat and chilled with friends for a while before heading home with an air of super contentment and utter relax, for once.
Celine enjoyed the night thoroughly!
